But first, a quick history lesson on California table grapes!

The fresh grape boom hit California in 1839 when a former trapper from Kentucky, William Wolfskill, planted the state’s first table grape vineyard in the area we now know as Los Angeles.

Wolfskill, an agricultural entrepreneur, was the first farmer to ship fresh grapes to Northern California. Then in 1869, R.B. Blowers expanded the idea and sent the first 22-pound box of California grapes to Chicago via the new transcontinental railroad.

While the gold rush may have ended here in California, the grape rush continues with over 99% of table grapes commercially grown in the United States coming from California!

What is grape salad made of?

Traditionally when we think of “grape salad,” our minds settle on a very creamy dessert-ish dish laden with cream cheese and brown sugar. It’s definitely a vibe all on its own, but honestly, grape salad can be made with all sorts of ingredients. You are only limited by your imagination and what other ingredients you have on hand!

Table grapes are officially in season! Look and ask for table grapes from California in your local grocery store.
