Chocolate Covered Kiwi Hearts
Meet Them Here

Chocolate & fruit is always a good idea.
If the post title didn’t give it away, I bet you would’ve never guessed these were made from kiwis in the first place!
The tartness of the kiwis and the smoothness of the chocolate make this combination delectable. And, they are super easy to make!
I even added skewers to mine to make them fun for the kids to eat. Plus, it helps to keep their little fingers from getting too messy.
Here is the easy recipe for Chocolate Covered Kiwi Hearts:
- California kiwis
- Bag of milk chocolate chips
- Bag of white chocolate chips
- Coconut oil (or you can use traditional shortening)
- Small heart shaped cookie cutter (mine was 2″ across at the widest point)
Cut your kiwi in half. As a result of some of the kiwis sizes, I sliced a few lengthwise and a few crosswise, depending on how large they were.
Press the heart cookie cutter down onto the cut side of the kiwi.
Slice the back of the kiwi off to remove any of the fuzzy layer that still remains.
Now, melt your chocolates:
The Ratio is 4:1
So for every one cup of chocolate chips, you should use 1/4 cup of coconut oil.
Add the chocolate chips and the coconut oil to a double boiler, or just use a metal bowl over a pot of boiling water. Next, melt over medium heat until the chocolate is thoroughly melted.
Place the kiwi heart in the melted milk chocolate and cover entirely.
Lift the chocolate covered kiwi out with a fork.
Place on a cookie cooling rack with parchment paper placed under to catch the drips. Chill in the refrigerator to allow the chocolate to harden.
Using the melted white chocolate and a fork, drizzle the white chocolate over the kiwi hearts. Place back in the fridge to allow the white chocolate to set.
Dig in and enjoy!
Chocolate Covered Kiwi Hearts
Ingredients
- 8 ounces milk chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup coconut oil + 2 T divided
- 4 ounces white chocolate chips
- 5 kiwi sliced in half lengthwise
Instructions
- Cut kiwi fruit in half length wise. Place the kiwi cut side up. Use a small (approximately 2 inch) cookie cutter to cut kiwi into shapes.
- Slice the back of the kiwi off and remove any of the fuzzy layer that still remains.
- Add the milk chocolate chips and 1/4 cup of the coconut oil to a double boiler, or just use a metal bowl over a pot of boiling water. Stir over medium heat until thoroughly melted.
- Microwave Option: Put chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for one minute. Stir well. If it's not yet smooth, microwave for 30 seconds more. Stir until completely smooth and melted.
- Place the kiwi heart in the melted milk chocolate and cover entirely.
- Using a fork, lift the kiwi slices out of the chocolate and place on a cooling rack (we placed parchment paper underneath the rack to catch the drips).
- Place in refrigerator for approximately 10 minutes to allow chocolate to harden.
- While your chocolate is cooling, add the white chocolate chips and 1/8 cup of coconut oil to a double boiler, or just use a metal bowl over a pot of boiling water. Stir over medium heat until thoroughly melted.
- Remove the chocolate covered kiwi hearts from the fridge. Using a fork, drizzle the melted white chocolate onto the chocolate covered kiwi hearts. Place back in the fridge to allow the white chocolate to set (approximately another 10 minutes).
- Remove kiwi hearts from fridge. If desired, insert thin wooden skewers into the bottom of each heart. Enjoy!
