Did you know you can make your own homemade grenadine? Made from fresh pomegranate juice and only two other ingredients, this grenadine recipe is so easy, you’ll be making this all the time and keeping it as a staple in the fridge!
And it is so much better than the alternative. Store bought grenadine is full of corn syrup and dyes and who knows what else!
We use the natural color of the beautiful California pomegranate and sweeten it up with sugar. That’s it!
First we start with fresh pomegranate juice. Remember when I showed you how to do that?

Add equal amounts of juice and sugar to a saucepan and heat over medium heat, stirring frequently to dissolve the sugar and keep the bottom from burning. I wanted approximately 2 cups of grenadine, so I started with 4 cups of pomegranate juice and 4 cups of sugar.
Once the mixture starts to heat, allow to simmer and reduce to almost half, about 30 minutes. The mixture will have thickened a bit. Allow to cool for about an hour.
Once the mixture is cooled, add in the juice of one lime and stir to combine
Pour the cooled grenadine into a container and store in the fridge for up to a month.
But I doubt it will last that long!
The mixture is perfect for Shirley Temples or any cocktail that calls for grenadine, including this Tequila Sunrise from Mom4Real!
I made my kiddos their favorite drink and they LOVED the homemade grenadine!
I added a fresh, California strawberry to the top, because, ya know… California has year-round strawberries!
Did you know California produces more than 90 percent of the pomegranates within the United States?
True story!
Let’s make this grenadine recipe STAT!

Can this be made with a sugar alternative?
We have never tried it with a sugar alternative, so we can’t really say how it will turn out. If you give it a try though, let us know how it turns out!
