Did you know September is California Wine Month?
We have a whole month to celebrate!
Yay us!
To tell you the truth, around our house, we celebrate wine almost daily. I recently read that drinking red wine, in particular, is one of the best ways to prevent some serious health problems.
Everything in moderation, of course, but when you get the green light for a glass of wine, life just seems to be a little sweeter.
I decided to make a sorbet in honor of the cooler weather and Summer coming to an end. One last hurrah for some chilled, homemade ice cream.
I used a sweet rosé wine from California (of course!) for the base
And a few ripe Bartlett pears for added texture and flavor.
The process is pretty easy, you just need about a half hour for prep and then 6 hours of freezer time…
Start by peeling, coring and quartering 4 pears
Place them in a heavy saucepan and add the sugar
Pour in the wine and a few other ingredients
Cook on the stovetop and simmer for about 30 minutes
Puree the pears in a food processor and then add in the wine mixture and puree again until combined
Pour the mixture into a bowl and chill in the refrigerator for an hour
Transfer to a freezer container (I used a silicone loaf pan) and freeze for at least 6 hours.
Scoop up and enjoy!
Pear Rosé Sorbet is such a refreshing treat for the last few weeks of Summer!
Enjoy September Wine Month!
