Commitment to family and the land key to Braga family’s success

The Braga Family planted their farming roots in the 1920’s when Sebastian and Josie Braga bought a piece of land which was once thought to be un-farmable. Since then, the family has proven how wrong that was by turning it into one of the most productive farmlands in the world!

Rod Braga, president and farmer of Josie’s Organics remembers his favorite thing to do as a child was walk the fields with his grandfather.  He says his grandfather Sebastian’s favorite quote was “Each generation of Americans goes further than the generation proceeding it because it stands on the shoulder’s of that previous generation.”

As one of the largest organic family farms, the Braga clan maintains their heritage of sustainable farming set by their parents and grandparents. Technological implementation to minimize water usage, planting flowers to attract beneficial insects and reduce pests, and tilling organic matter back into the soil are just a few measures taken to ensure the land continues to offer high-quality, great-tasting organic vegetables!

Today, Rod walks the fields with his own son and reflects on how far they have come.  You can hear his story here.
