Ingredients

For the honey-cinnamon butter:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 5 TBSP California honey
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • tsp lemon juice
  • pinch of salt

To assemble the Honey Cinnamon Orange Toast:

  • 1 thick slice of bread, toasted
  • 2 tsp unsalted butter
  • 2 TBSP prepared honey-cinnamon butter
  • 1 large orange, any variety, peeled and cut into wheels or supremes
  • 2 TBSP chopped pistachios
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 2 sprigs thyme, stems removed
  • flaky sea salt

Instructions

To make the butter:

  • Place all ingredients in a mixing bowl. Using a spatula, mix together until fully combined. You can also use a Kitchen Aid with the paddle attachment. Scrape the sides a few times to make sure everything is incorporated.
  • Place the butter in an airtight container and store refrigerated for up to two weeks, or freeze for up to a month.

To assemble the toast:

  • Preheat a medium skillet by placing it on the stove at medium-low heat. Let it warm up for a minute or two.
  • Spread one teaspoon of butter evenly on one side of the bread.
  • Place the bread, buttered side down, onto the preheated skillet, making sure it sits flat.
  • While the bottom side is toasting, spread the remaining butter on the top side of the bread.
  • Keep a close eye on the bread as it toasts. When the bottom side turns golden brown and crispy (about 1-2 minutes), flip it with a spatula or tongs.
  • Allow the second side to toast until it achieves a golden-brown color and a satisfying crunch (another 1-2 minutes).
  • Remove the bread from the skillet.
  • Spread two tablespoons of the prepared honey-cinnamon butter over the top of the toasted bread.
  • Next, evenly spread the orange wheels or supremes over the buttered bread.
  • Garnish with chopped pistachios, thyme leaves, flaky sea salt, and a generous drizzle of honey.

Notes

You can toast slices of bread in the toaster or toaster oven instead of on the stovetop if desired.
